Vice-chair - External Affairs
Alex is Head of Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response for NHS England and NHS Improvement in the South West, where he works with his team to ensure the emergency preparedness of all NHS organisations in England's largest geographical region. Alex specifically leads a variety of work programmes including Communicable Disease and Pandemics, Excess and Mass Casualties, Learning and Improving, and personnel professional development.
Away from work Alex is a PhD student with University College London's Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction, researching the nexus of disaster science, healthcare and extreme climatic events.
Furthermore, Alex is National Community Response Lead for St John Ambulance where he supports the strategy for the charity's approach to services within the domains of Community Response, Admission Avoidance, NHS Support, Community Outreach and Community Engagement.
Alex is a Fellow of the Institute and sits on the Editorial Board for Alert. When he finds time outside all of the above, Alex occasionally blogs at his personal website www.thompsonthinks.com and tweets @ThompsonThinks.
